HelloBaby Monitor Review
We are going to be looking at the HelloBaby Monitor, which comes with a Remote Pan-Tilt Zoom Camera and a 3.2 inch LCD Screen. HelloBaby US is a popular American company known for producing some of the best well received baby monitors. Today we will be looking at the features, design and ease of use of the HelloBaby Monitor to see how it stands up compared to other baby monitors.
What You Get With A HelloBaby Monitor
The HelloBaby Monitor is the number 1 selling item on Amazon for complete surveillance systems and there is a reason why. It retails at just under $90.00 and provides a clear interface for looking in on your baby to make sure they are safe and comfortable.
Let's start with what you actually get for your money. Inside the box you'll get a camera that comes in either black or white, a 3.5 inch LCD monitor that provides a video feed of your camera and two power cables to connect both the LCD monitor and the camera. There are instructions that are pretty simple; this product doesn't really need a genius to set it up but if you want to know every little detail about it, go ahead and dive into them.
The LCD monitor has a rechargeable battery so you don't need to have it plugged into the power cable at all times. A full charge should last around 7 hours, but it varies based on usage. The monitor has a battery life signal just like a mobile phone, so you can keep an eye on when the battery gets low.
The camera needs to be plugged in at all times to function. The power cord is a healthy 2 meters long so you shouldn't find it hard to place to camera need a plug socket. The camera itself can also be mounted (and probably should be); there is a mount included in the box or you can purchase a more sturdy one on Amazon.
HelloBaby Camera Quality
The camera itself will capture a decent picture but it's not the HD quality we see from most camera products, however, this camera does not use WiFi to send and transmit data and instead relies on a 2.4ghz signal. This is great if you don't have a decent WiFi signal in your home (or even at all). The Camera does have infrared nighttime vision too, which helps with seeing in the dark and providing a great image.
The great part of this camera is that it's not static; you can rotate the camera using the LCD monitor. It has a 355 degree horizontal rotation, meaning you can see across an entire room that your baby is sleeping in. It also has a 120 degree vertical rotation for looking up and down. It is easy to operate from the LCD monitor, with the controls added to the side of the display panel. There is also a zoom feature, which can zoom in up 2x the image.
There are other features attached to this camera too; it comes with a room temperature monitor that will display a rating on the monitor, which is great for hot summers and freezing winters. It has a simple audio speaker for playing one of the 8 pre-installed lullabies; this is also used for the two-way audio communication feature with the LCD monitor.
The range on this baby monitor is set at 1,000 feet (300 meters), which should be big enough for most large houses. Since it doesn't use WiFi, you don't need a decent internet connection to run this monitor.
The LCD monitor is 3.2 inches, which is perfect for having on your bedside table or desk without it taking up too much space. The image is clear and audio is decent considering this isn't a HD product. The monitor has buttons on either side of it that allow you to zoom, rotate and tilt the camera. There is also an audio-only mode, which will stop the video feed and act as a traditional baby monitor.
If you want to cover more rooms and angles, this monitor can be paired with up to 4 cameras (you'll need to buy these extras separately). This is great if you have multiple children or want to keep an eye on multiple rooms without having to keep moving the camera around from room to room.
HelloBaby Monitor Verdict
Overall I give this baby monitor a solid 8 out of 10. The only downside to this monitor is picture quality, which in today's day and age is all about HD 1080p quality. You would expect for $90.00 you would get HD picture, especially as some security cameras are a lot cheaper and come with HD video feeds. The other downside is that there is no cloud storage or any storage for that matter, which would be a plus if you want to check back on something.
The no need for WiFi is great- it makes taking the baby monitor on holiday a breeze without needing to get WiFi all setup. The picture is decent and sound quality allows you to hear everything very well.
The adjustable camera angles are great too; with simply controls on the LCD monitor even a non-techy person will be able to operate this camera easily. The two-way audio is a nice addition also, as if one parent is in the same room as the child it makes for easy communication.
